OUChorus is OUMS’ newly-reformed choral society, and we have an enthusiastic and ambitious new committee at the helm. From singing with large symphony orchestras to intimate a cappella settings, we offer a diverse and friendly musical experience. Whilst membership is primarily open to University members, we welcome anyone who is interested in singing with other people! We look forward to performing Karl Jenkins' 'The Armed Man' with Orchestra this Michaelmas Term, and further engagements singing a diverse range of repertoire throughout the year!
OUChorus Conductors
Auditions for the conductorship of OUMS take place each Trinity Term, with the new conductors taking over in Michaelmas Term
Louis Benneyworth
Conductor
Louis Benneyworth is a conductor, composer and multi-instrumentalist currently studying Music at St. Catherine's College. A Choral Exhibitioner at Somerville, and having sung in Sherborne and Bath Abbeys, as well as Wells Cathedral, he is no stranger to the world of vocal music and loves the unique atmosphere and emotional pull that is afforded by such performances. This is combined with time as the Founder and Musical Director of the East Devon Singers, and the Rehearsal Director for the Ottery St. Mary Choral Society. At Oxford, he is the current principal director of the Oxford University String Ensemble, President of OUMS, and has assisted for OrchestraVox. He is really excited to get started with OUChorus, and experience the joy of large-scale choral singing once more.
Hattie Twigger-Ross
Assistant Conductor
Emma is a second-year music student at Somerville College. Emma is a choral scholar in the Somerville College Choir, having never sung in a choir prior to the choral trials. She has always loved singing, and took part in a community opera before deciding to apply as a choral scholar. She is looking forward to sharing her crazy warm-ups with the rest of OUChorus, and is determined to ensure that OUChorus is a place for all who love singing, regardless of experience!
